Sarah UBrienSarah U’Brien has spent the last 18 years developing support services and activities for rural and isolated communities across New South Wales, Australia. She returned to her hometown of Dungog seven years ago to
raise her family and manage the Dungog Shire Community Centre.

In April 2015 Dungog was unexpectedly struck with massive flooding, and Sarah found herself coordinating the community-led recovery efforts in the Shire. As the recovery efforts progressed over the past three years, Sarah has now started moving her community-developed work to include focus on disaster resilience and preparedness and the role community development plays in building community knowledge, capacity and resilience.
As part of her outreach, Sarah provides how communities can move from bouncing back from disaster, to bouncing forward, and is sharing that experience locally and internationally.
